In recent times, a concerning trend has emerged across social media platforms: using graphic or emotional images of oppressed Palestinians to gain likes, shares, and followers. While raising awareness is a noble cause, exploiting the suffering of our brothers and sisters for clout or engagement is deeply unethical and un-Islamic. We have noticed that people are sharing pictures of Palestinians and adding content related to non-related things including hashtags related to movies and actors, which is not permissible in Islam.
Islam Teaches Sincerity, Not Showmanship
If the intention behind sharing such images is to truly help, educate, or inspire action, then it can be rewarded. But if the goal is fame, followers, or monetization, it turns into a sinful act that disrespects the pain of innocent victims. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
"Actions are judged by intentions..."
(Bukhari & Muslim)
Dangers of This Trend:
1. Desensitization – Constant exposure to such images can numb people’s emotions, making them less responsive to real crises.
2. Exploitation of Victims – Sharing without consent, context, or purpose disrespects the dignity of those suffering.
3. False Narratives – Many images are used without proper verification, spreading misinformation that can damage the cause.
4. Riyā’ (Showing Off) – Seeking attention through good deeds nullifies their reward in the Hereafter.
What Muslims Should Do Instead:
(a) Make sincere du‘ā for Palestine and other oppressed regions.
(b) Donate to verified and trustworthy relief organizations.
(c) Raise awareness with facts, not just emotions or photos.
(d) Write, speak, and educate others with purpose and integrity.
(e) Contact leaders, sign petitions, and participate in peaceful, lawful activism.
(f) Verify every image and news before sharing: *“O you who believe, if a sinner brings you news, verify it…”* (Qur’an 49:6)
Final Reminder:
Let us not turn the blood of martyrs and the tears of orphans into tools for personal gain. Instead, let’s honor them by being productive, sincere, and action-driven Muslims.
