Chapter 86: Surah At-Tariq (The Morning Star)

Chapter 86: Surah At-Tariq (سورة الطارق)
Meaning: The Morning Star | Has: 17 Verses | Revealed In: Mecca (Makki Surah)
1. وَٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلطَّارِقِ
By the sky and the night-comer (the morning star),
2. وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلطَّارِقُ
And what can make you know what the night-comer is?
3. ٱلنَّجْمُ ٱلثَّاقِبُ
It is the piercing star.
4. إِن كُلُّ نَفْسٍۢ لَّمَّا عَلَيْهَا حَافِظٌۭ
There is no soul but that it has a protector over it.
5. فَلْيَنظُرِ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ مِمَّ خُلِقَ
So let man observe from what he was created.
6. خُلِقَ مِن مَّآءٍۢ دَافِقٍۢ
He was created from a fluid, ejected,
7. يَخْرُجُ مِنۢ بَيْنِ ٱلصُّلْبِ وَٱلتَّرَآئِبِ
Emerging from between the backbone and the ribs.
8. إِنَّهُۥ عَلَىٰ رَجْعِهِۦ لَقَادِرٌۭ
Indeed, Allah is Able to return him \[to life].
9. يَوْمَ تُبْلَى ٱلسَّرَآئِرُ
The Day when secrets will be put on trial,
10. فَمَا لَهُۥ مِن قُوَّةٍۢ وَلَا نَاصِرٍۢ
Then man will have no power or any helper.
11. وَٱلسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ ٱلرَّجْعِ
By the sky which returns (rain),
12. وَٱلْأَرْضِ ذَاتِ ٱلصَّدْعِ
And the earth which cracks open,
13. إِنَّهُۥ لَقَوْلٌۭ فَصْلٌۭ
Indeed, the Qur’an is a decisive statement,
14. وَمَا هُوَ بِٱلْهَزْلِ
And it is not amusement.
15. إِنَّهُمْ يَكِيدُونَ كَيْدًۭا
Indeed, they are planning a plan,
16. وَأَكِيدُ كَيْدًۭا
But I (Allah) am planning a plan.
17. فَمَهِّلِ ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ أَمْهِلْهُمْ رُوَيْدًۭا
So allow time for the disbelievers. Leave them awhile.
Significance of Surah At-Tariq:
This Surah emphasizes that every soul has a guardian and nothing is hidden from Allah. It reflects on the creation of man and reminds that just as Allah created man from a drop, He has the power to resurrect. The Surah reassures the truth of the Qur’an and declares that all plots against it will be overcome by divine wisdom.
