Chapter 85: Surah Al-Buruj (The Mansions of the Stars)

Chapter 85: Surah Al-Buruj (سورة البروج)
Meaning: The Mansions of the Stars | Has: 22 Verses | Revealed In: Mecca (Makki Surah)
1. وَٱلسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ ٱلْبُرُوجِ
By the sky containing great stars,
2. وَٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْمَوْعُودِ
And \[by] the promised Day,
3. وَشَاهِدٍۢ وَمَشْهُودٍۢ
And \[by] the witness and what is witnessed,
4. قُتِلَ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْأُخْدُودِ
Destroyed were the people of the ditch—
5. ٱلنَّارِ ذَاتِ ٱلْوَقُودِ
[The fire] full of fuel,
6. إِذْ هُمْ عَلَيْهَا قُعُودٌۭ
When they sat by it,
7. وَهُمْ عَلَىٰ مَا يَفْعَلُونَ بِٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ شُهُودٌۭ
And they were witnesses to what they were doing to the believers.
8. وَمَا نَقَمُوا۟ مِنْهُمْ إِلَّآ أَن يُؤْمِنُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ ٱلْعَزِيزِ ٱلْحَمِيدِ
And they resented them only because they believed in Allah, the Almighty, the Praiseworthy,
9. ٱلَّذِى لَهُۥ مُلْكُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍۢ شَهِيدٌ
To Whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. And Allah is Witness over all things.
10. إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ فَتَنُوا۟ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتِ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَتُوبُوا۟ فَلَهُمْ عَذَابُ جَهَنَّمَ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابُ ٱلْحَرِيقِ
Indeed, those who persecute the believing men and believing women and then do not repent will have the punishment of Hell and the burning fire.
11. إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ لَهُمْ جَنَّـٰتٌۭ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْفَوْزُ ٱلْكَبِيرُ
Indeed, those who believe and do righteous deeds will have Gardens beneath which rivers flow. That is the great success.
12. إِنَّ بَطْشَ رَبِّكَ لَشَدِيدٌ
Indeed, the punishment of your Lord is severe.
13. إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ يُبْدِئُ وَيُعِيدُ
Indeed, it is He who originates \[creation] and repeats.
14. وَهُوَ ٱلْغَفُورُ ٱلْوَدُودُ
And He is the Forgiving, the Loving,
15. ذُو ٱلْعَرْشِ ٱلْمَجِيدُ
Owner of the Glorious Throne,
16. فَعَّالٌۭ لِّمَا يُرِيدُ
Doer of whatever He wills.
17. هَلْ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ ٱلْجُنُودِ
Has there come to you the story of the soldiers—
18. فِرْعَوْنَ وَثَمُودَ
[Those of] Pharaoh and Thamud?
19. بَلِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ فِى تَكْذِيبٍۢ
But those who disbelieve are in \[persistent] denial.
20. وَٱللَّهُ مِن وَرَآئِهِم مُّحِيطٌۭ
And Allah encompasses them from behind.
21. بَلْ هُوَ قُرْءَانٌۭ مَّجِيدٌۭ
But this is a Glorious Qur’an,
22. فِى لَوْحٍۢ مَّحْفُوظٍۢ
[Inscribed] in a Preserved Tablet.
Significance of Surah Al-Buruj:
