Friday Khutbah Struggles: Staying Awake Edition

Let’s be honest—we’ve all been there.

You walk into the masjid, shoes off, socks slightly mismatched, heart ready for Jumu’ah… and then the khateeb starts speaking in a voice that could rival the hum of a fan on low speed. The next thing you know, you're blinking slowly, fighting gravity as your head dips forward.

One time, I tried every trick in the book: sat on the cold tile, bit my tongue, even shifted positions every few minutes. But halfway through, my eyes closed for what felt like **one second**—and I woke up to Aqeem as-Salah!

Some brothers come prepared with mint gum, some just elbow their friends mid-nap, and some—mashaAllah—manage to stay focused the whole time, no matter the speaker. May Allah make us all among them!

But seriously, it made me reflect: maybe it’s not just about the speaker. It's about me preparing spiritually before I even enter the masjid—getting enough rest, arriving early, reading some Qur’an beforehand, and treating the khutbah like a personal message from Allah.

Still... it wouldn’t hurt if the khateeb added just a little passion, right?
