Chapter 75: Surah Al-Qiyamah (سورة القيامة)
Meaning: The Resurrection | Has: 40 Verses | Revealed In: Mecca (Makki Surah)
Significance of Surah Al-Qiyamah:
This surah focuses on the Day of Resurrection and the human soul’s denial of accountability. It refutes the doubts about bodily resurrection and emphasizes Allah’s power to bring all creation back to life. The surah calls for reflection on life after death and the seriousness of the Hereafter.
1. لَآ أُقْسِمُ بِيَوْمِ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ
I swear by the Day of Resurrection,
2. وَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِٱلنَّفْسِ ٱللَّوَّامَةِ
And I swear by the self-reproaching soul.
3. أَيَحْسَبُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ أَلَّن نَّجْمَعَ عِظَامَهُۥ
Does man think that We will not assemble his bones?
4. بَلَىٰ قَـٰدِرِينَ عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّسَوِّىَ بَنَانَهُۥ
Yes. \[We are] able even to proportion his fingertips.
5. بَلْ يُرِيدُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ لِيَفْجُرَ أَمَامَهُۥ
But man desires to continue in sin.
6. يَسْـَٔلُ أَيَّانَ يَوْمُ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ
He asks, “When is the Day of Resurrection?”
7. فَإِذَا بَرِقَ ٱلْبَصَرُ
So when vision is dazzled,
8. وَخَسَفَ ٱلْقَمَرُ
And the moon is darkened,
9. وَجُمِعَ ٱلشَّمْسُ وَٱلْقَمَرُ
And the sun and the moon are joined,
10. يَقُولُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ يَوْمَئِذٍ أَيْنَ ٱلْمَفَرُّ
Man will say on that Day, “Where is the escape?”
11. كَلَّا لَا وَزَرَ
No! There is no refuge.
12. إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ ٱلْمُسْتَقَرُّ
To your Lord, that Day, is the place of permanence.
13. يُنَبَّؤُا۟ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ بِمَا قَدَّمَ وَأَخَّرَ
Man will be informed that Day of what he sent ahead and kept back.
14. بَلِ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ عَلَىٰ نَفْسِهِۦ بَصِيرَةٌۭ
Rather, man, against himself, will be a witness,
15. وَلَوْ أَلْقَىٰ مَعَاذِيرَهُۥ
Even if he presents his excuses.
16. لَا تُحَرِّكْ بِهِۦ لِسَانَكَ لِتَعْجَلَ بِهِۦ
Do not move your tongue with it \[O Prophet], to hasten it.
17. إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا جَمْعَهُۥ وَقُرْءَانَهُۥ
Indeed, upon Us is its collection and its recitation.
18. فَإِذَا قَرَأْنَـٰهُ فَٱتَّبِعْ قُرْءَانَهُۥ
So when We have recited it \[through Gabriel], then follow its recitation.
19. ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا بَيَانَهُۥ
Then upon Us is its explanation.
20. كَلَّا بَلْ تُحِبُّونَ ٱلْعَاجِلَةَ
But no! You love the immediate (worldly life)
21. وَتَذَرُونَ ٱلْءَاخِرَةَ
And neglect the Hereafter.
22. وُجُوهٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ نَّاضِرَةٌ
[Some] faces, that Day, will be radiant,
23. إِلَىٰ رَبِّهَا نَاظِرَةٌۭ
Looking at their Lord.
24. وَوُجُوهٌۭ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ بَاسِرَةٌ
And \[some] faces, that Day, will be gloomy,
25. تَظُنُّ أَن يُفْعَلَ بِهَا فَاقِرَةٌۭ
Expecting that there will be done to them \[something] back-breaking.
26. كَلَّآ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ ٱلتَّرَاقِىَ
No! When it (the soul) reaches the collar bones,
27. وَقِيلَ مَنْ ۜ رَاقٍۢ
And it is said, “Who will cure \[him]?”
28. وَظَنَّ أَنَّهُ ٱلْفِرَاقُ
And he \[the dying one] is certain that it is the \[time of] separation
29. وَٱلْتَفَّتِ ٱلسَّاقُ بِٱلسَّاقِ
And the leg is wound about the leg,
30. إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ ٱلْمَسَاقُ
To your Lord, that Day, is the procession.
31. فَلَا صَدَّقَ وَلَا صَلَّىٰ
And he neither accepted the truth nor prayed,
32. وَلَـٰكِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ
But \[instead], he denied and turned away.
33. ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِۦ يَتَمَطَّىٰٓ
Then he went to his people, swaggering \[in pride].
34. أَوْلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوْلَىٰ
Woe to you, and woe!
35. ثُمَّ أَوْلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوْلَىٰٓ
Then woe to you, and woe!
36. أَيَحْسَبُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ أَن يُتْرَكَ سُدًى
Does man think that he will be left neglected?
37. أَلَمْ يَكُ نُطْفَةًۭ مِّن مَّنِىٍّۢ يُمْنَىٰ
Had he not been a sperm-drop from semen emitted?
38. ثُمَّ كَانَ عَلَقَةًۭ فَخَلَقَ فَسَوَّىٰ
Then he was a clinging clot, and \[Allah] created \[his form] and proportioned \[him]
39. فَجَعَلَ مِنْهُ ٱلزَّوْجَيْنِ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلْأُنثَىٰٓ
And made of him the two mates — the male and the female.
40. أَلَيْسَ ذَٰلِكَ بِقَـٰدِرٍ عَلَىٰٓ أَن يُحْـِۧىَ ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ
Is not that \[Creator] Able to give life to the dead?

38. ثُمَّ كَانَ عَلَقَةًۭ فَخَلَقَ فَسَوَّىٰ
