The Surah stresses divine guidance, accountability, and the role of prophets, and it urges people to recognize Allah’s supreme authority in all matters.

All praise is due to Allah, who created the heavens and the earth and made the darkness and the light. Yet those who disbelieve equate \[others] with their Lord.
It is He who created you from clay and then decreed a term \[for you] and a specified time \[known] to Him; yet you doubt.
And He is Allah in the heavens and on the earth. He knows your secrets and what you make public, and He knows what you earn.
No sign comes to them from the signs of their Lord except that they turn away from it.
They denied the truth when it came to them, but the news of what they used to ridicule will soon come to them.
Have they not seen how many generations We destroyed before them, whom We had established on earth more firmly than We have established you?
And We sent \[rain from] the sky upon them in showers and made rivers flow beneath them;
then We destroyed them for their sins and produced after them other generations.
If We had sent down to you a written scripture on parchment, and they touched it with their hands, the disbelievers would still have said, “This is nothing but obvious magic.”
They say, “Why has an angel not been sent down to him?” Had We sent down an angel, the matter would have been decided, and they would not be reprieved.
If We had made him an angel, We would have made him appear as a man, and We would have confused them just as they confuse themselves.
Messengers before you were also ridiculed, but those who mocked them were enveloped by what they used to ridicule.
Say, “Travel through the land and observe how was the end of the deniers.”
Say, “To whom belongs whatever is in the heavens and the earth?” Say, “To Allah.”
He has decreed upon Himself mercy.
He will surely assemble you for the Day of Resurrection, about which there is no doubt.
Those who have lost themselves do not believe.
To Him belongs whatever dwells in the night and the day. And He is the Hearing, the Knowing.
Say, “Shall I take as a protector anyone other than Allah, the Originator of the heavens and the earth?”
He feeds and is not fed.
Say, “Indeed, I have been commanded to be the first to submit \[to Allah] and not be among the polytheists.”
Say, “Indeed I fear, if I disobey my Lord, the punishment of a tremendous Day.”
Whoever is spared from it that Day – He has indeed had mercy upon him. And that is the clear success.
If Allah should touch you with harm, none can remove it except Him.
And if He intends good for you, then there is no one who can repel His bounty. He is Able to do all things.
And He is the Subjugator over His servants. And He is the Wise, the All-Aware.
Say, “What thing is greatest in testimony?” Say, “Allah is Witness between me and you.”
And this Qur’an has been revealed to me that I may warn you thereby and whomever it reaches.
Do you truly testify that there are other gods with Allah?” Say, “I do not testify.”
Say, “He is but one God, and indeed I am free of what you associate with Him.”
Those to whom We gave the Scripture recognize him \[the Prophet] as they recognize their own sons.
Those who have lost themselves – they will not believe.
