In today's fast-paced and self-centered world, the concept of khidmah (service) is often overlooked. We're encouraged to chase personal success, but rarely are we reminded of the barakah and spiritual reward in helping others — Whether it involves visiting the ill, providing food to the hungry, or simply offering support to someone in distress.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
Serving others doesn't always require grand actions. Holding the door for someone, checking in on a lonely neighbor, offering a smile — these small deeds can have a big impact. Even online, we can serve by offering kind advice, sharing beneficial knowledge, or supporting someone struggling silently. The people most loved by Allah are those who are most beneficial to others- (Reported by At-Tabarani)
Reviving the Sunnah of serving others is not just about fulfilling a duty — it’s about embodying the character of the Prophet ﷺ in our everyday lives. Acts of kindness, no matter how small, are forms of worship that bring us closer to Allah and strengthen our communities. In a world that often promotes individualism, being of service is a quiet, powerful form of resistance and a reminder of our true purpose.
Let’s make service a habit, not a one-time gesture. Let’s inspire our families, friends, and neighbors to give more, care more, and serve more — for the sake of Allah alone.
