1. Islam Was the First Religion to Truly Protect and Uplift Girls
Before the advent of Islam, in many parts of the world, especially in pre-Islamic Arabia, girls were treated as inferior and even buried alive out of shame.
The Qur'an condemned this brutal practice and forbade all forms of injustice against girls. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ not only outlawed such acts but taught that raising daughters is a means to Paradise:“And when the girl [who was] buried alive is asked, for what sin she was killed…” (Surah At-Takwir 81:8-9)
Islam was revolutionary in recognizing the value, rights, and protection of girls in a society that saw them as burdens. This sets a precedent for Muslims today to continue being protectors and supporters of girls’ dignity, education, and safety—everywhere.“The Prophet ﷺ said, 'Whoever looks after two daughters until they grow up will be with me on the Day of Resurrection like this,' and he joined his fingers to show how close. (Muslim)
2. Islam Commands Justice for All
Islam is not selective in justice. Muslims must defend and protect the rights of all women, Muslim or non-Muslim, as part of opposing all forms of oppression and harm.“Surely, Allah instructs you to uphold justice, act with kindness, and support your relatives, and He prohibits indecency, wrongdoing, and all forms of injustice.” (Surah An-Nahl 16:90)
3. The Prophet ﷺ Was a Mercy to All of Humanity
The Prophet’s ﷺ mission was universal. He showed compassion and protection to everyone, regardless of their background. Muslims are taught to carry that legacy of mercy forward—especially toward the vulnerable.“We sent you [O Muhammad] only as a mercy to all of creation.” (Surah Al-Anbiya 21:107)
4. Women Deserve Honor, Not Harm
The Prophet ﷺ said:
This teaching includes all women. Islam doesn’t allow for any form of violence, harassment, or mistreatment—be it against a Muslim woman or a woman of any other faith.“The best of you are those who are best to their women.” (Tirmidhi)
5. Life and Dignity Are Sacred in Islam
Islam upholds the sacredness of human life and dignity:
Any form of abuse or harm against women is a violation of this principle. Islam teaches that defending others' dignity is a sign of true faith."Do not kill any soul that Allah has made sacred, unless justified by law." (Surah Al-Isra 17:33)
6. All Humans Deserve Dignity
This verse makes it clear: dignity is not limited by religion or race. Every girl, every woman—Muslim or not—is a creation of Allah and deserves to live safely and with respect.“We have certainly honored the children of Adam…” (Surah Al-Isra 17:70)
7. A True Muslim is a Shield for Others
That means Muslims must be protectors of peace and safety in society. If someone is being harmed, a Muslim must step in and stop it.The Prophet ﷺ said:
“A true Muslim is someone who causes no harm to others through their words or actions.” (Bukhari & Muslim)
Conclusion
Islam was the first religion to raise the status of girls, protect their rights, and condemn their mistreatment. As followers of Islam, Muslims must continue this mission—not just for fellow Muslims, but for all women and girls in society. Whether it’s speaking out against injustice, offering help to those in need, or ensuring the safety of women in their communities—this is not just good character, it is worship.
Being a protector of women is not optional in Islam. It is a reflection of one’s iman (faith), akhlaq (character), and obedience to Allah.
