Meaning: The Friday Congregation | Has 11 Verses | Revealed In: Medina (Madani Surah)
1. يُسَبِّحُ لِلَّهِ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الْأَرْضِ الْمَلِكِ الْقُدُّوسِ الْعَزِيزِ الْحَكِيمِ
Whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth glorifies Allah—the Sovereign, the Holy, the Almighty, the All-Wise.
2. هُوَ الَّذِي بَعَثَ فِي الْأُمِّيِّينَ رَسُولًا مِّنْهُمْ يَتْلُو عَلَيْهِمْ آيَاتِهِ وَيُزَكِّيهِمْ وَيُعَلِّمُهُمُ الْكِتَابَ وَالْحِكْمَةَ وَإِن كَانُوا مِن قَبْلُ لَفِي ضَلَالٍ مُّبِينٍ
He is the One who raised a Messenger among the unlettered people from amongst themselves, reciting to them His revelations, purifying them, and teaching them the Book and wisdom—although before that, they were clearly astray.
3. وَآخَرِينَ مِنْهُمْ لَمَّا يَلْحَقُوا بِهِمْ ۚ وَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الْحَكِيمُ
And \[He has sent him] to others among them who have not yet joined them. And He is the Almighty, the All-Wise.
4. ذَٰلِكَ فَضْلُ اللَّهِ يُؤْتِيهِ مَن يَشَاءُ ۚ وَاللَّهُ ذُو الْفَضْلِ الْعَظِيمِ
That is the bounty of Allah, which He gives to whom He wills. And Allah is the Lord of great bounty.
5. مَثَلُ الَّذِينَ حُمِّلُوا التَّوْرَاةَ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَحْمِلُوهَا كَمَثَلِ الْحِمَارِ يَحْمِلُ أَسْفَارًا ۚ بِئْسَ مَثَلُ الْقَوْمِ الَّذِينَ كَذَّبُوا بِآيَاتِ اللَّهِ ۚ وَاللَّهُ لَا يَهْدِي الْقَوْمَ الظَّالِمِينَ
The example of those who were entrusted with the Torah but failed to uphold it is that of a donkey carrying books. How evil is the example of people who deny Allah’s signs! For Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people.
6. قُلْ يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ هَادُوا إِن زَعَمْتُمْ أَنَّكُمْ أَوْلِيَاءُ لِلَّهِ مِن دُونِ النَّاسِ فَتَمَنَّوُا الْمَوْتَ إِن كُنتُمْ صَادِقِينَ
Say, \[O Prophet], “O you who are Jews, if you claim to be Allah’s chosen ones out of all people, then wish for death—if what you say is true.”
7. وَلَا يَتَمَنَّوْنَهُ أَبَدًا بِمَا قَدَّمَتْ أَيْدِيهِمْ ۚ وَاللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ بِالظَّالِمِينَ
But they will never wish for it because of what their hands have done. And Allah has full knowledge of the wrongdoers.
8. قُلْ إِنَّ الْمَوْتَ الَّذِي تَفِرُّونَ مِنْهُ فَإِنَّهُ مُلَاقِيكُمْ ۖ ثُمَّ تُرَدُّونَ إِلَىٰ عَالِمِ الْغَيْبِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ فَيُنَبِّئُكُم بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ
Say, “The death you run away from will certainly meet you. Then you will be returned to the Knower of the unseen and the seen, and He will inform you of what you used to do.”
9. يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِذَا نُودِيَ لِلصَّلَاةِ مِن يَوْمِ الْجُمُعَةِ فَاسْعَوْا إِلَىٰ ذِكْرِ اللَّهِ وَذَرُوا الْبَيْعَ ۚ ذَٰلِكُمْ خَيْرٌ لَّكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ
O believers! When the call to prayer is made on Friday, then proceed to the remembrance of Allah and leave off trade. That is better for you, if only you knew.
10. فَإِذَا قُضِيَتِ الصَّلَاةُ فَانتَشِرُوا فِي الْأَرْضِ وَابْتَغُوا مِن فَضْلِ اللَّهِ وَاذْكُرُوا اللَّهَ كَثِيرًا لَّعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ
Once the prayer is over, disperse throughout the land and seek the bounty of Allah, and remember Allah often so you may be successful.
11. وَإِذَا رَأَوْا تِجَارَةً أَوْ لَهْوًا ٱنفَضُّوا إِلَيْهَا وَتَرَكُوكَ قَائِمًا ۚ قُلْ مَا عِندَ ٱللَّهِ خَيْرٌ مِّنَ ٱللَّهْوِ وَمِنَ ٱلتِّجَارَةِ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ خَيْرُ ٱلرَّازِقِينَ
Yet when they saw a trade or amusement, they rushed to it and left you standing \[in prayer]. Say, “What is with Allah is far better than amusement and trade. And Allah is the Best Provider.”
