Meaning: The Light | Total Verses: 64 | Revealed In: Medina (Madani Surah)
1. سُورَةٌ أَنزَلْنَـٰهَا وَفَرَضْنَـٰهَا وَأَنزَلْنَا فِيهَآ ءَايَـٰتٍۢۙ بَيِّنَـٰتٍۢ لَّعَلَّكُمْ تَذَكَّرُونَ
\[This is] a Surah which We have sent down and made obligatory and revealed therein clear verses so that you might remember.
2. ٱلزَّانِيَةُ وَٱلزَّانِى فَٱجْلِدُوا۟ كُلَّ وَٰحِدٍۢ مِّنْهُمَا مِاْئَةَ جَلْدَةٍۢ
The woman and the man guilty of fornication – lash each one of them with a hundred lashes.
3. ٱلزَّانِى لَا يَنكِحُ إِلَّا زَانِيَةً أَوْ مُشْرِكَةًۭ وَٱلزَّانِيَةُ لَا يَنكِحُهَآ إِلَّا زَانٍ أَوْ مُشْرِكٌۭ
The fornicator does not marry except a fornicatress or a polytheist.
4. وَٱلَّذِينَ يَرْمُونَ ٱلْمُحْصَنَـٰتِ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَأْتُوا۟ بِأَرْبَعَةِ شُهَدَآءَ فَٱجْلِدُوهُمْ ثَمَـٰنِينَ جَلْدَةًۭ
And those who accuse chaste women and do not bring four witnesses – lash them with eighty lashes.
5. إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ تَابُوا۟ مِنۢ بَعْدِ ذَٰلِكَ وَأَصْلَحُوا۟
Except for those who repent afterward and correct themselves.
6. وَٱلَّذِينَ يَرْمُونَ أَزْوَٰجَهُمْ وَلَمْ يَكُن لَّهُمْ شُهَدَآءُ إِلَّآ أَنفُسُهُمْ
And those who accuse their wives and have no witnesses except themselves...
7. فَشَهَـٰدَةُ أَحَدِهِمْ أَرْبَعُ شَهَـٰدَٰتٍۭۢ بِٱللَّهِ
Then the testimony of one of them is four testimonies by Allah...
8. وَٱلْخَـٰمِسَةَ أَنَّ لَعْنَتَ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ إِن كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْكَـٰذِبِينَ
And the fifth \[testimony will be] that the curse of Allah be upon him if he is of the liars.
9. وَيَدْرَؤُا۟ عَنْهَا ٱلْعَذَابَ أَن تَشْهَدَ أَرْبَعَ شَهَـٰدَٰتٍۭۢ بِٱللَّهِ
But it will prevent punishment from her if she testifies four times by Allah...
10. وَٱلْخَـٰمِسَةَ أَنَّ غَضَبَ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْهَآ إِن كَانَ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَ
And the fifth \[testimony] that the wrath of Allah be upon her if he was of the truthful.
11. إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ جَآءُو بِٱلْإِفْكِ عُصْبَةٌۭ مِّنكُمْ
Indeed, those who came with falsehood are a group among you.
12. لَّوْلَآ إِذْ سَمِعْتُمُوهُ ظَنَّ ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتُ بِأَنفُسِهِمْ خَيْرًۭا
Why, when you heard it, did not the believing men and women think good of one another...
13. لَّوْلَا جَآءُوا۟ عَلَيْهِ بِأَرْبَعَةِ شُهَدَآءَ
Why did they not bring for it four witnesses?
14. وَلَوْلَا فَضْلُ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَتُهُۥ فِى ٱلدُّنْيَا وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ لَمَسَّكُمْ
And if it had not been for the favor of Allah upon you and His mercy...
15. إِذْ تَلَقَّوْنَهُۥ بِأَلْسِنَتِكُمْ
When you received it with your tongues...
16. وَلَوْلَآ إِذْ سَمِعْتُمُوهُ قُلْتُم مَّا يَكُونُ لَنَآ أَن نَّتَكَلَّمَ بِهَـٰذَا
And why, when you heard it, did you not say, "It is not for us to speak of this"?
17. يَعِظُكُمُ ٱللَّهُ أَن تَعُودُوا۟ لِمِثْلِهِۦٓ أَبَدًا إِن كُنتُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ
Allah warns you never to return to the likes of it if you should be believers.
18. وَيُبَيِّنُ ٱللَّهُ لَكُمُ ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌۭ
And Allah makes clear to you the verses; and Allah is Knowing and Wise.
19. إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يُحِبُّونَ أَن تَشِيعَ ٱلْفَـٰحِشَةُ فِى ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟
Indeed, those who like that immorality should be spread \[or publicized] among the believers...
20. وَلَوْلَا فَضْلُ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَتُهُۥ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ رَءُوفٌۭ رَّحِيمٌۭ
And if it had not been for the favor of Allah upon you and His mercy...
21. يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تَتَّبِعُوا۟ خُطُوَٰتِ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنِ
O you who have believed, do not follow the footsteps of Satan...
22. وَلَا يَأْتَلِ أُو۟لُوا۟ ٱلْفَضْلِ مِنكُمْ وَٱلسَّعَةِ
And let not those of virtue among you and wealth swear not to give \[aid]...
23. إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يَرْمُونَ ٱلْمُحْصَنَـٰتِ ٱلْغَـٰفِلَـٰتِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتِ لُعِنُوا۟ فِى ٱلدُّنْيَا وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ
Indeed, those who falsely accuse chaste, unaware, believing women are cursed...
24. يَوْمَ تَشْهَدُ عَلَيْهِمْ أَلْسِنَتُهُمْ وَأَيْدِيهِمْ وَأَرْجُلُهُم
On the Day when their tongues, their hands, and their feet will bear witness against them...
25. يَوْمَئِذٍۢ يُوَفِّيهِمُ ٱللَّهُ دِينَهُمُ ٱلْحَقَّ
That Day, Allah will pay them in full their true recompense.
26. ٱلْخَبِيثَـٰتُ لِلْخَبِيثِينَ وَٱلْخَبِيثُونَ لِلْخَبِيثَـٰتِ
Wicked women are for wicked men, and wicked men for wicked women...
27. يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تَدْخُلُوا۟ بُيُوتًۭا غَيْرَ بُيُوتِكُمْ
O you who have believed, do not enter houses other than your own...
28. فَإِن لَّمْ تَجِدُوا۟ فِيهَآ أَحَدًۭا فَلَا تَدْخُلُوهَا حَتَّىٰ يُؤْذَنَ لَكُمْ
And if you do not find anyone therein, do not enter until permission is given to you.
29. لَّيْسَ عَلَيْكُمْ جُنَاحٌ أَن تَدْخُلُوا۟ بُيُوتًا غَيْرَ مَسْكُونَةٍۢ
There is no blame upon you for entering houses not inhabited...
30. قُل لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ يَغُضُّوا۟ مِنْ أَبْصَـٰرِهِمْ
Tell the believing men to lower their gaze...
31. وَقُل لِّلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتِ يَغْضُضْنَ مِنْ أَبْصَـٰرِهِنَّ
And tell the believing women to lower their gaze...
32. وَأَنكِحُوا۟ ٱلْأَيَـٰمَىٰ مِنكُمْ
And marry off the singles among you...
33. وَلْيَسْتَعْفِفِ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يَجِدُونَ نِكَاحًۭا
And let those who do not find \[the means for] marriage keep themselves chaste...
34. وَلَقَدْ أَنزَلْنَآ إِلَيْكُمْ ءَايَـٰتٍۢ مُّبَيِّنَـٰتٍۢ
And We have certainly sent down to you clear verses...
35. ٱللَّهُ نُورُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ
Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth...
